Ø "War and Peace" is a novel by the Russian author Leo Tolstoy, first published in 1869. The novel tells the story of five aristocratic families and their experiences during the Napoleonic Wars in the early 19th century.

Ø The story begins in 1805, as the Russian aristocracy prepares for war with Napoleon's army. Ø The war progresses, with the Russians suffering a number of defeats at the hands of Napoleon's army. Andrei is wounded and falls in love with his nurse, a young woman named Natasha Rostova. Natasha's engagement to Prince Kuragin is broken off when it is discovered that he is already married. Pierre intervenes to prevent her from eloping with him, and as a result, she falls in love with Pierre.

Ø As the war draws to a close, Andrei returns to Russia and divorces his wife in order to marry Natasha. However, shortly after their marriage, Andrei dies of his wounds, leaving Natasha to grieve his loss. Pierre, meanwhile, finds happiness with Natasha's friend, the kind and gentle Princess Marya Bolkonskaya.
